From bold beginnings
UNLV traces its roots to a small extension program established in 1951. The first classes on its permanent campus began in 1957, and the institution adopted the University of Nevada, Las Vegas name in 1969. In a few remarkable decades, it grew from a desert outpost into a nationally recognized research university.
